Auto Insurance Policy Basics

Understanding the basics of your auto insurance policy can help you make smart decisions about finding the right coverage. Here are some tips for finding the best auto insurance policy for you:

1

Compare quotes from multiple companies to get an idea of what you will pay for your policy. You might be able to save significant money by shopping around. As an independent agency, SF Services can shop over 18 carriers for you in one quote, saving you a lot of time and hassle!
2

Check company ratings with your state’s department of insurance or with sites like A.M. Best and J.D. Power & Associates, which both provide ratings on companies based on their financial stability, customer service and other issues.
3

Choose a deductible that fits within your budget so that if you have an accident, you won't pay out-of-pocket expenses beyond it. If you would find yourself unable to come up with $1,000 or more in case of an accident, consider raising your deductible to $1,000 or higher.

Different Types of Auto Insurance Coverages We Provide.

1

Liability Coverage

Most U.S. States require drivers to carry a minimum amount of liability coverage. The two components to liability coverage are - Bodily Injury Liability (covers costs of another person's injuries if you are at fault in an accident) and Property Damage Liability (covers costs of damages to another person's property that you caused while driving).
2

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

This type of coverage is required in some states, but not in others. It can help pay for your medical and vehicle repair expenses if you are hit by a driver who does not have insurance. The most common case for using this type of coverage is if the underinsured driver you were in an accident with does not have enough liability coverage to pay your resulting medical/property bills.
3

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage protects you against damage to your vehicle by things like fire, storm damage, theft/vandalism, and other disasters. If the calamity is covered, your policy would help pay for repair to or replacement of your vehicle past the deductible (what you pay) on the policy. Comprehensive coverage may be required if you are leasing or making payments on a vehicle.
4

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage can help pay for expenses to your vehicle if you were in an accident or hit an obstacle (tree, fence, etc.) while driving. This type of coverage is optional unless required by your vehicle leasing/lending company. Collision coverage does not pay for medical expenses, damage to another person's vehicle, or damage to your vehicle caused by a non-driving event (storm damage, theft/vandalism, etc.).
5

Medical Payments Coverage

Medical payments coverage helps pay for medical expenses for you (the driver), your passengers, or family member drivers who are injured in an accident. Common types of medical expenses covered are hospital visits, x-rays, exams, and surgery.
6

Rental Reimbursement Coverage

Need a rental while your car is in the shop? Rental reimbursement coverage can help pay for rental car or other transportation expenses while your vehicle is being repaired. Other common names for this coverage type are rental car coverage, or transportation expense coverage.
7

Towing & Labor Cost Coverage

Stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire, dead battery, or some other problem that requires roadside assistance? This common policy add-on can include: towing, jump starts, gas or oil delivery, tire changes, or lockouts. Most of the time the labor for these services are covered, but not the parts required for the service repair.
8

Classic Car Insurance

When you are driving your special classic car, you don't want to worry about what might happen if something goes wrong while on the road. That is where classic car insurance comes in. This type of coverage goes beyond normal auto coverage by protecting your car's value in the event of a damaging accident.
