What information do I need to file a claim?
Although each insurance carrier might ask for slightly different information, below is a standard list of things you should have ready before you file a claim online or call your insurance carrier to make a claim:
Auto claim:
- Policy number (you can find it on your insurance card)
- Date of the accident
- Location of the accident
- Description of how the accident occurred
- Information on the driver (name, phone number and type of vehicle)
- Name of the police department involved (if applicable)
- Police report number (if applicable)
- Pictures of the accident
Home/Reneters Claim:
- Policy number
- Date and approximate time of damage/loss
- Where the damage is on/in the home
- Estimate from contractor for repairs (if applicable)
Be sure to file your claim as quickly as possible after the accident occurs.
